Signing in without a password
We now send a one-time sign-in link to your email instead of asking for a password. Here is how it works and what to do if something goes wrong.
How it works
- 1
Enter your email
On the sign-in page, type the email address on your account and press “Email me a sign-in link.”
- 2
Open the email we send you
Within a minute or two you will receive an email with a “Sign in” button. It comes from the same address as our other notices.
- 3
Click the button
That is it — you are signed in. Each link works once and expires after 15 minutes, so if you wait too long simply request a new one.
Common questions
- Why did sign-in change?
Passwords are the most common way accounts get compromised: they are forgotten, reused across websites, and leaked in data breaches. A one-time link proves you have access to your email, which is more secure and means there is nothing to remember or reset.
- I didn't get the email
First, check your spam or junk folder — new kinds of email often land there. If you find it, mark it as “Not spam” so future links arrive in your inbox. If it is not there after a few minutes, double-check the spelling of your email address and request another link. Only addresses that belong to an existing member account receive a link.
- The link says it's invalid or expired
Links can be used once and expire after 15 minutes. Go back to the sign-in page and request a fresh one. If you requested several links, use the most recent email.
- Will I have to do this every time?
No. Once you are signed in on a device, you stay signed in for about three months, just as before. You only need a new link when you sign out or use a new device.
- What about my podcast subscriptions?
Nothing changes. Your personal podcast feeds keep working in your podcast app exactly as they do today.
- What happened to my password?
You no longer need it, and the sign-in page no longer asks for one. There is nothing you need to do.
